Λίγα χρόνια πριν ο αρχηγέτης της pop-art Andy Warhol,φιλοτεχνήσει ένα ακόμα έργο σύμβολο στην ιστορία της μοντέρνας τέχνης (BMW M1 ART CAR),ένας σπουδαίος ομότεχνός του,άνοιγε τον δρόμο με μια ιδέα πρωτοποριακή που έμελλε όχι μόνο να αναδείξει και να αναβαθμίσει έτι περισσότερο το ήδη υψηλό κύρος της…κυανόλευκης προπέλας αλλά και ταυτόχρονα να αποτελέσει σταθμό στην σύζευξη δύο κόσμων…Τέχνης και Αυτοκίνησης!

Ο αμερικανός Alexander Calder,ήταν ένα από εκείνα τα σπάνια καθολικά πνεύματα που με πολλά καταπιάνονται και σε πολλούς τομείς πρωτεύουν.Κατά την διάρκεια των σπουδών του διέπρεψε στα μαθηματικά,ακολούθησε την μηχανολογία(λάτρης της αυτοκίνησης γαρ)για να καταλήξει στις εικαστικές τέχνες και μάλιστα στην γλυπτική.Τέχνη την οποία υπηρέτησε αφήνοντας(ανάγλυφη..στην κυριολεξία)την σφραγίδα του,με την δημιουργική του φαντασία(Μάλιστα είχε και…βιολογική προδιάθεση προς τούτο, καθόσον ο παππούς αλλά και ο πατέρας του ήταν και εκείνοι γλύπτες!)Ο ιδιοφυής Calder δεν ήταν απλά και μόνο ένας σημαντικός καλλιτέχνης αλλά ο άνθρωπος που δημιούργησε ένα εντελώς νέο καλλιτεχνικό ρεύμα με τα mobiles!Τα κινούμενα δηλαδή γλυπτά του.Το έργο του ανακαίνισε την γλυπτική και οδήγησε σε μια εντελώς νέα θεώρηση και σε ο,τι σήμερα ονομάζουμε Kinetic art.

Το 1975 οπότε και αρχίζει η ιστορία μας,ένας φιλόδοξος και δαιμόνιος όπως θα αποδειχτεί νεαρός γάλλος επιχειρηματίας ο Herve Poulain πλησιάζει τον καλλιτέχνη(ο οποίος από το 1956 διαμένει στην Γαλλία)και του προτείνει κατι πρωτοποριακό…Να χρησιμοποιήσει μια αγωνιστική Bmw 3.0csl ως καμβά για το επόμενο καλλιτέχνημά του!!Ο Herve Poulain(σήμερα διευθύνει έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους οίκους δημοπρασιών έργων τέχνης στην Ευρώπη)ήταν ένας νεαρός που κατά δήλωσή του είχε δύο αγάπες.Την αγάπη για το ωραίο και την αγάπη για την ταχύτητα.Γύρω στα 30-35 του(την εν λόγω περίοδο δηλαδή)και μετά από σπουδές στην νομική που τελικά δεν τον κέρδισε καθώς άλλο ήταν το μεράκι του,είχε προλάβει να δικυωθεί με σημαίνουσες προσωπικότητες στο χώρο της τέχνης και της αυτοκίνησης ενώ στα 29 του είχε τρέξει και τον πρώτο του αγώνα.Το 1973 μάλιστα γράφει το "Art and the automobile"(έργο αναφοράς σήμερα) όντας ένας από τους πρώτους θεωρητικούς της σύζευξης υψηλής τέχνης και αυτοκίνησης ενώ το 1974 θα διοργανώσει και την πρώτη του δημοπρασία με αυτοκίνητα-αντίκες.

Ο Calder στα 77 του πλέον,ενθυμούμενος την παλιά του αγάπη για τα αυτοκίνητα παρακινούμενος από τον οίστρο του νεαρού φίλου Herve Poulain και φυσικά με το ανήσυχο καλλιτεχνικό του αισθητήριο εν εγρηγόρσει και πάντα πρόθυμο να εξερευνήσει το αισθητικά απρόσμενο και πρωτοπόρο θα πεί το ΝΑΙ!

Ο CALDER(και σύσσωμος ο κόσμος της τέχνης και του αυτοκινήτου)θα καμαρώσει το δημιούργημά του να τρέχει στις φημισμένες 24ώρες του Le Mans….Ο Ηθικός αυτουργός του όλου εγχειρήματος Poulain θα οδηγήσει το αυτό-κινούμενο έργο τέχνης και μηχανολογικής αρτιότητας των 3210 cc και 480 ίππων προφανώς στα όρια της τελικής του(καμιά 300άρα υπολογίστε) στον αγώνα,αποδεικνύοντας ότι πέρα από ένας sui-generis εστέτ πανέξυπνος επιχειρηματίας(εξ’ορισμού ασυμβίβαστες έννοιες) ήταν και ένας ικανότατος οδηγός!Κατάφερε να βρεθεί μέχρι και την 5η θέση μπροστά από επαγγελματίες οδηγούς,κινούμενος στο όριο…αλλά μάλλον το παράκανε..Ενα μηχανολογικό πρόβλημα θα τον προδώσει ως υπόμνηση μάλλον ότι η Bmw 3.0csl art car ως αυθεντικό έργο τέχνης ήταν ντελικάτη και δεν ανεχόταν την κακομεταχείριση….

Για την ιστορία ο τυχεράκιας Γάλλος οδήγησε και την Μ1 του Warhol (τερματίζοντας έκτος στον ίδιο αγώνα)όπως και τα περισσότερα από τα BMW ART CARS(17 το σύνολο)ενώ έφτασε να θεωρείται αυθεντία στις δημοπρασίες σπάνιων και πανάκριβων αυτοκινήτων.Λίγοι καταφέρνουν να κάνουν το χόμπι τους επάγγελμα,ακόμα λιγότεροι να γίνουν ζάπλουτοι από αυτό και ελάχιστοι να γράψουν το όνομα τους(έστω και ως υποσημείωση)στις δελτούς της ιστορίας(εδώ της ιστορίας της τέχνης)ως φορείς πρωτοποριακών ιδεών..Μάγκας,ατσίδας το Γαλλόπουλο λοιπον!

Όσο για τον μεγάλο δημιουργό CALDER δεν πρόλαβε να χαρεί την απήχηση τη σειράς BMW ART CARS την οποία ο ίδιος εγκαινίασε με το δημιούργημά του…Ένα χρόνο μετά,το 1976 πέρασε στην αιωνιότητα…Η μοναδική Bmw Art Car 1975: 3.0 CSL (η μπολιασμένη με το πνεύμα των περίφημων αφηρημένων mobiles του,που τον έκαναν πασίγνωστο)αποτέλεσε το κύκνειο άσμα του και προπομπό μιας από τις πιο επιτυχημένες σειρές μοντέρνας τέχνης μέχρι και σήμερα…



Ο δημιουργός ποζάρει αγέρωχα μπροστά στο δημιούργημα…Στο φόντο διακρίνονται οι λοιποί συντελεστές(αριστερά ο Poulain)αλλά και τα περίφημα "κινούμενα γλυπτά" του(mobiles)που τον καθιέρωσαν ως θρύλο της μοντέρνας γλυπτικής και αφηρημένης τέχνης εν γένει

Είναι απο εκείνα τα θεματάκια που τα βρίσκεις ενδιαφέροντα και "στριφογυρίζουν" στο νού σου μέχρι να βρείς λίγο χρόνο να τα επεξεργαστείς.Αφορμή υπήρξε συζήτηση με "ιταλόφιλο"..."γνώστη",ο οποίος ούτε λίγο ούτε πολύ ισχυρίζοταν μετά μεγάλης επιμονής(και φαιδρής τολμώ να πώ έπαρσης),πως οι πλέον "ευγενείς μάρκες'" απο καταβολής αυτοκίνησης είναι αποκλειστικά ιταλικές."Οι ιταλοί δημιουργούν έργα τέχνης οχι αυτοκίνητα"...(τετριμμένες απόψεις,μάλλον ως πρόφαση για την παροιμιώδη αναξιοπιστία των προϊόντων της αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίας των γειτόνων θα πείτε και θα έχετε και δίκιο)Εντάξει λοιπόν...Άφησε τους "Τεύτονες" αλλά και τους "Βίκινγκς" να δημιουργούν αξιόπιστα(τουλάχιστον)"κουτιά" όπως λές αλλά..οι φίλοι της άλλοτε κραταιάς βρετανικής αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίας με Aston-Martin,Jaguar,Bentley,Rolls-Royce ακόμα και η ξεχασμένη πλέον Leyland με μοναδικά Rover,Mg,Triumph(και σίγουρα πιο αξιόπιστα απο τα ιταλικά)τι θα έπρεπε να ισχυριστούν περί.."ευγενικής καταγωγής"..και τετράτροχων έργων τέχνης;;;Προσωπικά δεν διαφωνώ με την "ευγένεια καταγωγής" ή την "ομορφιά" πολλών..."ιταλίδων"(...;)...)αλλά με τον απόλυτο τρόπο της διατύπωσης που αν μη τι άλλο δείχνει...περιορισμένο εύρος σκέψης...

Αν ο λόγος είναι περί αισθητικής(αν και όταν αναφερόμαστε σε τετράτροχα ονοματίζοντάς τα "έργα τέχνης" η αισθητική δεν είναι παρά μόνο ένας απο διάφορους παράγοντες που οφείλουμε να λάβουμε υπ'όψιν μας)τότε ο "Τεύτονας" με έμβλημα την "προπέλα"(ναι γιατι "εμείς" και κινητήρες αεροπλάνων κατασκευάζαμε κύριοι..)έχει κάθε δικαίωμα να υπερηφανεύεται για τα.."πεπραγμένα" του...Και αυτή η μοναδική σειρά(Bmw Art Cars)που φέρει τις υπογραφές μεγάλων καλλιτεχνών,να κοσμούν ιστορικά και πλήρως λειτουργικά μοντέλα της Bmw,όχι μόνο εξευγενίζει το ήδη μοναδικό pedigree της φίρμας αλλά και επιβεβαιώνει περίτρανα το "διαχρονικό" της "εταιρικής" αισθητικής της άποψης....

καπου τα ειχε παρει το ματι μου ξανα, αλλα δεν θυμαμαι σε ποιο θρεντ ηταν.

Munich. Just in time to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the BMW Group’s international cultural commitment, the legendary BMW Art Car Collection can now be seen for the first time within a virtual video tour on the Internet. For the first time, an extensive virtual overview of the origin, history and development of the collection is available on the Internet. In addition to extensive photographic material, a film has been devoted to every single one of the 17 “works of art on wheels”, each of which was designed by an internationally well-known artist. Historic racing footage and artists’ statements as well as renowned representatives from art and culture are to be seen. The BMW Art Cars can be viewed at www.bmw-artcartour.com.

“After four decades and a total of 17 BMW Art Cars, they can now all be admired by everyone. The interactive website pays homage to the collection, unique in the history of the automobile and the arts. Whilst the originals are often exhibited individually at the BMW Museum in Munich or at significant cultural institutions throughout the world, people are now able to discover for the BMW Art Cars in their entirety. A comprehensive online tour is now available anywhere and anytime,” says Bill McAndrews, head of BMW Group Corporate Strategy and Communications,” says Bill McAndrews, Vice President Communications Strategy and Corporate Communications.

The BMW Art Car Collection.
Since 1975 renowned artists from all four corners of the world have made their contribution to the series with the creation of contemporary vehicles. In 2010, BMW celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Art Car series. For this occasion, the internationally acclaimed artist Jeff Koons created the 17th vehicle of the collection. All BMW Art Cars will be showcased until 25 September within the first comprehensive overall exhibition at the BMW Museum in Munich to demonstrate a chapter of exciting automobile, design and art history. The works of art are racing and production saloons, coupés and roadsters and are all contemporary witnesses of a mobile lifestyle. The exhibition covers everything from Pop Art of the 70’s to the “idea of the continents”, right down to new 21st century concepts.

The initial idea of the collection – to have a car designed by an artist – was a product of the imagination of the French auctioneer and passionate racing car driver Hervé Poulain. On his initiative, the American Alexander Calder designed his BMW racing car – the BMW 3.0. CSL – at the beginning of the 1970s. The first vehicle to bring together the worlds of art and motor sport took part in the 24-hour race of Le Mans. The enthusiastic reception of the rolling sculpture was the spark of inspiration that led BMW to create the Art Car Collection.

Hervé Poulain about his vision: “One day, I said to myself, now is the time to do something grandly communicative and heroic and unite my two passions, by having my racing cars painted by the leading artists of the time.”

A total of 17 male and female artists from 9 countries and all 5 continents have contributed towards the special diversity and aesthetics of the collection, artists such as Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, A.R. Penck, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer and Olafur Eliasson. The collection attracts interest all over the world: at the Louvre in Paris, the New York Whitney Museum,
the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and at the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao. During the years 2006 to 2010, the BMW Art Car Collection completed a world tour, taking it, inter alia, to museums in Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Australia, India, Taiwan, China, Russia, Africa, the United States and Mexico. The Arts Cars – symbols of the interconnection between art, design and technology – will also in future continue to be on show at international museums.
