As well as an opportunity to get to know each other, the youngsters, all between 14 and 18 years old, were also given their first theory classes at the "Welcome Event". The young drivers from 11 countries underwent a mental test and attended a media workshop, where they discovered more about the importance of press relations in motor racing.

Over the course of the season, the participants in the Formula BMW Talent Cup will undertake an interesting and diverse programme, covering all the theoretical and practical demands facing today’s racing drivers. The youngsters will meet a further nine times in the coming months. They head straight from the "Welcome Event" to a six-day fitness camp, where they will be given an insight into the latest training methods and important diets. The final preparations, before the drivers take to the track for the first time, take place at the Formula BMW Technology Center in Dudeldorf, where a custom-fit seat will be cast for each driver.

The juniors will venture out onto the track for the first time on 21st and 22nd April at the "Red Bull Ring" near Salzburg. This will be followed by a further five "On-Track" events in Sweden, Spain, France, Hungary and Germany.

Another part of the accompanying training programme on the racetrack is formed by systematic training courses, which focus on data analysis and car set-up, combined with driving technique. Before the season gets underway, experts will create a training programme for the youngsters to follow throughout the year, based on the results of an extensive fitness test. In addition, the young guns will take part in special training sessions in the simulator.

Towards the end of the season, the talented young drivers will once again be given intensive preparation for dealing with media and sponsors in the future. The 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup reaches a climax with the "Grand Final", which is held as part of the DTM event from 13th to 16th September 2012 in Oschersleben. BMW Motorsport will sponsor the winner of the Formula BMW Talent Cup for a season in a higher-level single-seater racing series. The winner of last year's inaugural Formula BMW Talent Cup, German Stefan Wackerbauer, will line up as a Red Bull Junior in the Formula Renault 2.0 series in 2012.

BMW works driver and head instructor for Formula BMW, Dirk Adorf (DE), will provide the participants with useful tips and advice. He is joined by a team of experts with international experience, consisting of other BMW drivers, instructors, fitness trainers and mental coaches.
