τα 35 για το i3 και τα 170 για το i8 είναι τσάμπα σε σχέση με την τεχνολογία R&D etc.
σε λίγα χρόνια όταν και αν στραφούν προς τα εκεί οι αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίες οι τιμές των υλικών που χρησιμοποιούνται για την κατασκευή τους θα μειωθούν τραγικά.

The innovative BMW laser-light technology receives a 2014 Berthold Leibinger Innovation award.
29.09.2014  Winners Leibinger Innovationspreis second place: Dr. Abdelmalek Hanafi, Dr. Helmut Erdl and BMW Laserteam. BMW developers awarded the second innovation prize of Berthold Leibinger Foundation Munich/Ditzingen. The Berthold Leibinger Foundation awarded Dr. Helmut Erdl and Dr. Abdelmalek Hanafi of BMW Group the second innovation prize. The award recognizes the candidates for the development and implementation of a new high-brightness white light source that enhances the visibility of vehicle drivers. On June 5th, the BMW i8 with laser-based lighting systems were delivered to customers. "We are honored to receive this prize that represents the second best laser applications worldwide during the last two years out of 32 applications according to a jury composed of top scientists and industrials. The competition was extremely hard.” said Erdl and Hanafi. “Our innovation is indeed a game changer not only in the automotive lighting sector, but in the illumination sector in general.” commented Erdl and Hanafi. “This prize is actually a tribute to the whole automotive sector as well as to the entire contributors to the advances in GaN-based solid state lighting“ added Erdl and Hanafi. Dr. Alexander A. Oraevsky of Tomo Wave Laboratories Inc. USA is the 2014 first innovation prize winner in recognition of his important work on laser opto-acoustic imaging applied to cancer diagnosis purposes. Prof. Hwa-yaw Tam, Prof. Siu Lau Ho and Dr. Shun-Yee Michael Liu of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University are the third innovation prize winners for a laser-sensor network for monitoring railway traffic. The Berthold Leibinger Innovation Prize has been awarded every two years since 2002 for outstanding achievement in the development of forward-looking laser-light applications. The Berthold Leibinger Innovation Prize award recognizes and promotes researchers and developers, who take new directions in the application of lasers. The foundation has been awarding the prize every two years since 2000 for excellent research and development work in the application or generation of laser light. It is one of the most prestigious international innovation awards for laser technology. The BMW i8 wins Top Gear Car of the Year
08.12.2014  The BMW i8 The BMW i8 has been named as Top Gear magazine’s global Car of the Year 2014. The plug-in hybrid performance vehicle beat off some stiff competition from a host of other premium and luxury manufacturers to win the overall award. The editorial team of Top Gear commended the BMW i8 for its breadth of abilities. Its 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor gives searing acceleration and driver enjoyment but all wrapped in a package that takes BMW’s EfficientDynamics philosophy to the extreme courtesy of CO2 emissions less than 49g/km and a 135mpg combined cycle figure. Charlie Turner, Editor in Chief at Top Gear magazine, said: “The BMW is a milestone in the annals of automotive history and a glorious statement for an exciting and positive future. The i8 delivers – and then some. It’s the kind of car we should celebrate, a beautiful vision of the future, delivered now. It is a resounding success for the BMW i8 and the whole team were unanimous in naming the BMW i8 as Top Gear magazine’s Car of the Year.” Top Gear magazine is one of the most influential global motoring and lifestyle magazines and, in addition to the original UK publication, has 31 international editions. 03.04.2015  The BMW i8 (09/2013) Μόναχο / Νέα Υόρκη. Για δεύτερη συνεχή χρονιά, η BMW i κατακτά μία νίκη στα World Car Awards στην κατηγορία World Green Car. Μετά την περσινή επιτυχία του ηλεκτρικού BMW i3, φέτος ήταν η σειρά του BMW i8 να διεκδικήσει αυτό το περίοπτο βραβείο στο Διεθνές Σαλόνι Αυτοκινήτου της Νέας Υόρκης. Ο συνδυασμός πρωτοποριακής plug-in υβριδικής τεχνολογίας και καινοτόμου, ελαφριάς δομής με προηγμένη σχεδίαση αναγνωρίστηκε από τη διεθνή κριτική επιτροπή των World Car Awards. Το BMW i8 μπορεί να διανύσει μέχρι 37 km μόνο με ηλεκτρισμό και να επιταχύνει σαν καθαρόαιμο σπορ μοντέλο αλλά με κατανάλωση μικρού αυτοκινήτου. Ο τρικύλινδρος βενζινοκινητήρας 1.5-λίτρων με τεχνολογία BMW TwinPower Turbo, συνδυάζεται με έναν ηλεκτροκινητήρα. Η μπαταρία μπορεί να φορτίζεται σε μία συμβατική πρίζα, σε σταθμό φόρτισης ή απλά κατά τη διάρκεια της οδήγησης.
