New automatic climate control in the BMW 3 Series operates using advanced thermal management.

Increased interior comfort thanks to improved air quality, better fuel economy through intelligent control.

München. For a long time, motorists regarded air conditioning merely as a guarantee of a cool workplace when behind the wheel. During the early 1980s, the optional extra was predominantly ordered as protection against the midsummer heat inside the car, true to the motto: the heat has to stay out, irrespective of how hot the sun is. The greater the “refrigerator feeling” experienced by occupants was, the more effective an air conditioning system was considered to be.

However, over the years, consumers have changed their attitude and the demands on interior climate comfort have increased significantly. Whether in extreme heat, heavy rainfall or severe cold, a cosy interior climate has become a must.
In the case of the new BMW 3 Series, air conditioning experts go even a step further, as particularly good air quality is also crucial for best possible interior climate comfort.
Besides automatic air circulation control, which is activated for instance in increased concentrations of fine particulate and exhaust gases in tunnels or behind HGVs, the standard air conditioning unit featured in the new BMW 3 Series employs an additional filter system that also becomes effective when switched to the air circulation mode.
As a result, unpleasant environmental odours such as those sometimes experienced in industrial areas or in the streets of large cities are almost entirely eliminated. The perfect interaction between the automatic air circulation control and the filter system noticeably enhances air quality inside the BMW 3 Series. Even when the air conditioning is not in use, the additional filter remains active.

When opting for a two-zone automatic climate control system, both the driver and the front seat passenger are able to set the desired temperature for their seat area individually and according to preference. The temperature of the air leaving the air vents as well as the amount and distribution of air are automatically regulated. Depending on intensity and radiation angle of the sun, the automatic climate control system adapts its degree of effectiveness (solar compensation) and individually adjusts the interior temperature to the desired level on both the driver and front seat passenger sides. Additional air vents, likewise variably adjustable and located in the rear compartment, ensure that backseat passengers are also able to enjoy a pleasant interior climate. In order to avoid fogged-up windows, particularly during the cold and damp season, the new BMW 3 Series is also equipped with an automatic sensor-controlled anti-fogging function, which intervenes by means of targeted ventilation as soon as visibility is restricted.

After a frosty night or when it is bitterly cold, the new climate control system quickly generates a remarkably high heat output. Within the defrosting area of the windscreen, the field of vision is evenly defrosted only shortly after a cold start. The increased heating performance is of particular benefit to customers in Scandinavia, as temperatures there often drop below minus 20 degrees in the winter. Even in temperatures as low at that, the two-zone automatic climate control system featured in the BMW 3 Series ensures that the car is cosy and warm within the foot and head areas after around ten minutes, and that includes the rear compartment.

Each air vent of the automatic climate control system is controlled by a compact and centrally located flap mechanism, rendering additional stepper motors unnecessary. This all results in a saving of weight and space beneath the dashboard. Thanks to the compact design of the automatic climate control system, it is possible for the first time to offer the new BMW 3 Series with Head-Up Display – a new feature in the premium middle class. Furthermore, in this way, space has been created in the centre console for two cupholders.
Within the framework of EfficientDynamics measures, BMW engineers paid special attention to improving the fuel consumption of the new BMW 3 Series. When the driver switches to the ECO PRO mode, the new automatic climate control system operates using an optimised heating/climate strategy. Without any noticeable loss in comfort, fuel-efficiently is enhanced through reduced air-drying and cooling in the interior as well as through the intermittently deactivated air-conditioning compressor.

In BMW’s own environmental wind tunnel, engineers are working intensively on additional fuel savings and further optimisation of in-car climate comfort. In this facility, it is possible to simulate every climate zone on the planet, highly efficiently and within the shortest time. There, mainly cold starts and de-icing tests are carried out under the most extreme conditions. The aim of BMW developers is to further shorten the engine warm-up phase, as higher temperatures reduce friction, which in turn facilitates lower fuel consumption and emission levels - totally in keeping with the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy.

Munich The new BMW 3 Series Sedan not only sets new standards of driving pleasure in the premium segment of the middle class - the level of safety it provides is also first rate. In the latest Euro NCAP series of crash tests, the new BMW 3 Series achieved the top rating and was awarded 5 stars. The sixth generation of the sport sedan completed this most arduous of test procedures, delivering excellent results in all of the test criteria. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor seven years ago, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan has again scored top marks for the brand, successfully completing test procedures which in the meantime have become significantly more challenging. The test procedures carried out by the Euro NCAP (new car assessment programme) are a measure of the protection offered by vehicles in the case of an accident, recognized by governments, motoring organisations and consumer protection groups throughout Europe. In addition to the protection afforded to the passengers in a number of different impact scenarios, active safety technology and pedestrian protection are also taken into account.

The passenger safety cell of the new BMW of 3 Series Sedan proved to be extremely resistant in both head-on and side impacts as well as in the side pole crash test. In all of the accident scenarios, the forces acting on the vehicle were safely channelled over clearly defined load paths and absorbed by generously dimensioned deformation zones. In addition, the extensive standard safety equipment including front and side airbags, side head airbags for both the front and the rear passengers, three-point automatic seat belts fitted to all seats, belt force limiters and belt tensioners in the front and ISOFIX child seat mountings in the rear provides both the driver and his passengers with extensive protection from injury, no matter what size they may be, or their seating position. In the event of a rear end collision, the active head restraints fitted to the front seats minimize the risk of whiplash injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

The examiners also awarded high marks with regard to child safety. They certified that the new BMW 3 Series Sedan provides excellent protection in the event of both a head-on collision and a side impact. When test dummies fitted with sensors were strapped into seating systems designed for three year old and one and a half year old children, reassuringly at the moment of impact these "children" were all registered as maintaining stable positions with minimal head movements.

In order to optimise pedestrian protection, the new BMW 3 Series is designed with flexible structures and precisely modelled body areas at the front of the vehicle, which reduce the risk of injury to those on foot in the event of a collision. In the Euro NCAP crash test, the vehicle scored the maximum number of points for the design of the bumper and the front area of the bonnet. This very positive assessment also took into account the design of the structural elements at the front of the vehicle - those that are relevant to head injuries to children in the case of a collision.

The excellent results achieved by the new BMW 3 Series in the Euro NCAP crash tests is rounded out by the exemplary, comprehensive safety equipment. This sedan is equipped with Dynamic Stability Control DSC and a tyre pressure indicator as standard equipment, optionally including the Active Protection System and the Enhanced Emergency Call with automatic location detection and determination of accident severity. Back in 2010, BMW received the special Euro NCAP Advanced Award for the BMW ConnectedDrive Advanced eCall, a capability unique in the middle class.

The 5-star rating won by the new BMW 3 Series highlights yet again the advanced level of safety technology designed into the current models of the marque. Since the expansion of the testing program in 2009, the BMW models undergoing the Euro NCAP crash tests have all, without exception, achieved the highest rating. Following the example set by the BMW X 1, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW X 3 and the new BMW 1 Series, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan has now also passed these tests with flying colours and been awarded 5 stars.

Πριν απο λιγο επισκευτηκα επισημη αντιπροσωπεια για να δω απο κοντα
την νεα F30.
Συγγνωμη παιδια..δεν με εντυπωσιασε!!!!
Σε συγκριση παντα με το Ε90 μου φανηκε πιο φαρδυ και
με πιο τονισμενα ''νευρα''στο εμπρος καπω..το οποιο επισης
δειχνει και πιο φαρδυ.
Το ταμπλω ειναι το ιδιο με της σειρας 1.
Αν και δεν την οδηγησα, -οπτικα μονο- εκει
που κατεληξα ειναι πως δεν εχει γινει ιδιαιτερο αλμα σχεδιαστικα!

Latest-generation BMW ActiveHybrid technology: six-in-line engine, electric motor, lithium-ion battery.
The 225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is the same unit renowned for its free-revving capability, pulling power and efficiency in the BMW 335i. The electric motor, meanwhile, develops 40 kW/55 hp and is supplied with energy by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated underneath the luggage area.
Power from the two drive systems is transferred to the rear wheels by the eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition to its full-hybrid construction, which enables purely electric and therefore local emission-free driving in urban conditions or when coasting, the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 boasts not just highly sporty performance but also a double-digit percentage improvement in fuel economy over the BMW 335i/335iA.

Superior efficiency thanks to ECO PRO mode including coasting and intelligent energy management.
In order to exploit the potential of the BMW ActiveHybrid technology, the intelligent energy management of the power electronics uses a host of innovative functions to ensure the drive system runs efficiently.
Charging of the high-performance battery primarily takes place during coasting or braking, the electric motor performing the role of a generator feeding energy into the high-voltage battery. By contrast, under acceleration the electric motor takes on a boost function. Here, it assists the petrol engine by generating an ultra-dynamic burst of power, lending the Sedan’s sporty driving experience a sharper edge.
Moreover, while coasting at speeds of up to 160 km/h (100 mph) in
ECO PRO mode, the combustion engine can be switched off and fully decoupled. This coasting mode combines comfortable driving with optimum utilisation of the kinetic energy already generated. To avoid periods with the engine running at idle at junctions or in traffic tailbacks, the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 deploys its hybrid start-stop function. Plus, the power electronics can be intelligently linked up with the navigation system Professional (optional on the ActiveHybrid 3). This allows for proactive analysis of the driving situation, enabling the drive components to be primed to deliver maximum efficiency (the effect may vary according to the quality of the available navigation data).

Design: sporty elegance with individual accents.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 sees the sporty yet elegant body design of the BMW 3 Series Sedan complemented by bespoke touches which highlight its innovative drive technology. The “ActiveHybrid 3” lettering on the C-pillars and at the rear, along with the matt chrome exhaust tailpipes, set the exterior apart from the other models in the range. Further accents come courtesy of the standard satin-finish window surrounds and the BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow features in the side graphic.

Available as an option, meanwhile, are 18-inch Streamline light-alloy wheels displaying exceptional aerodynamic efficiency.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 also stands out visually with door sill strips bearing “ActiveHybrid 3” lettering, an aluminium plate on the gearshift lever knob with the same ID, and a bespoke engine cover. In addition, all three Sport,
Modern and Luxury lines as well as the M Sport package are available for the ActiveHybrid 3.

High-grade standard fittings, wide-ranging options.
The selection of interior colours, upholstery and interior trim elements reflects the range offered for the other BMW 3 Series Sedan variants.
Added to the standard-fitted array of comfort-enhancing features is also a
2-zone climate control system with stationary air conditioning.
A wide range of driver assistance systems and BMW ConnectedDrive mobility services, as well as virtually all the other optional extras available for the conventionally powered BMW 3 Series Sedan, can also be optionally specified for the BMW ActiveHybrid 3.

Production at BMW Plant Munich.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 will be produced at BMW Plant Munich alongside other BMW 3 Series models.

The integration into the production process of BMW ActiveHybrid technology is underpinned by the efficient combination of state-of-the-art automated process engineering and the skilled craftsmanship of specially trained employees.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan, Sport Line (10/2011)
Αθήνα. Οι νέες εκδόσεις της BMW Σειράς 3 Sedan που θα διατίθενται στην ελληνική αγορά από την 1η Δεκεμβρίου του 2012, θα προσφέρουν χαμηλή κατανάλωση και μειωμένες εκπομπές ρύπων. Η BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition Sedan δημιουργήθηκε με γνώμονα τη σταθερή μείωση της κατανάλωσης, ενώ χρησιμοποιεί ένα τετρακύλινδρο κινητήρα 1.6L, 125 kW/170 hp με BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. Ο κινητήρας παράγει μέγιστη ροπή 250 Nm και επιταχύνει το αυτοκίνητο από 0 σε 100 km/h σε 7,6 δευτερόλεπτα. Η τεχνολογία BMW EfficientDynamics, που προσφέρεται στάνταρ και στις άλλες εκδόσεις, ολοκληρώνεται στο συγκεκριμένο μοντέλο με μία βελτιστοποίηση της διαχείρισης του κινητήρα, των σχέσεων μετάδοσης, της αεροδυναμικής και της αντίστασης κύλισης. Έχει μέση κατανάλωση 5,3 lit./100 km και εκπομπές CO2 124 g / km στον Ευρωπαϊκό κύκλο οδήγησης. Στον τομέα της απόδοσης, η BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition Sedan κατατάσσεται στην πρώτη γραμμή της γκάμας των βενζινοκίνητων μοντέλων BMW.

Η νέα BMW 316i Sedan αντλεί ισχύ από το νέο τετρακύλινδρο βενζινοκινητήρα 1.6L, με BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, που αποδίδει μέγιστη ισχύ 100 kW/136 hp και μέγιστη ροπή 220 Nm. Την ισχύ μεταφέρει στους τροχούς ένα εξατάχυτο μηχανικό κιβώτιο (στάνταρ), ή ένα οκτατάχυτο αυτόματο (προαιρετικό). Η BMW 316i Sedan χρειάζεται 8,9 δεύτερα για να επιταχύνει από 0 στα 100 km/h (αυτόματο: 9,2 δεύτερο), ενώ η τελική ταχύτητα και στις δύο περιπτώσεις είναι 210 km/h.
Η BMW 316i, έχει υποδειγματική απόδοση, μέση κατανάλωση καυσίμου 5,8 – 5,9 lit./100 km και εκπομπές CO2 134 g - 137 g / km (ίδιες τιμές για μηχανικό και αυτόματο κιβώτιο ταχυτήτων ανάλογα με τον επιλεγμένο τύπο ελαστικού), στον Ευρωπαϊκό κύκλο δοκιμών.

Με πλούσιο εξοπλισμό, η βασική έκδοση της BMW 316i Sedan ξεκινάει από 27.500€ με όφελος απόσυρσης.

BMW 3 Series Touring (05/2012)

The new BMW 320d Touring, the BMW X1 xDrive 18d and the BMW 520i achieved leading positions in the "Auto Bild" ranking of models with the highest level of value retention.
Munich. Sheer Driving Pleasure provides lasting value and remains a powerful selling point even after years have passed. For this reason, current models of the BMW brand occupy several leading positions in the 2013 "Value Champion" ("Wertmeister") ranking published by "Auto Bild". Their outstanding qualities are sporty flair and efficiency, premium quality and expressive design - and these are the very properties which make them so highly rated when it comes to resale. The new BMW 320d Touring is currently rated as the mid-range vehicle with the highest level of value retention, while the BMW X1 xDrive 18d is "Value Champion 2013" in the compact SUV category. In addition, the BMW 520i leads the top-range ranking with the lowest level of depreciation. So once again the BMW brand is represented by models in diverse vehicle segments which stand out due to their high level of value retention.
The "Value Champion" ("Wertmeister") ranking published in the current edition of "Auto Bild" appears for the tenth time this year. It is based on detailed analyses carried out in collaboration with the well-known market investigation institute Schwacke. For each model, the automobile experts calculated the anticipated resale value in four years' time for a vehicle first registered in 2012. The results "Value Champion" ranking serves as a useful point of reference for potential automobile customers in making a purchase decision: after all, the difference between the new price and the anticipated resale value is a crucial cost factor. Once again this year, BMW models have emerged as first choice in this regard in several categories of vehicle. They are in demand on the used car market and this limits the rate at which they drop in value.
This means that the decision in favour of Sheer Driving Pleasure is also a good investment - for example in the medium range: with an anticipated resale value of 56.5 per cent after four years, the new BMW 320d Touring is the leader in its segment. Sporty driving properties, the efficiency of its 135 kW/184 bhp diesel engine and the high level of versatility of its interior ensure the lasting appeal of this newly launched 5-door model. Another very popular model is the BMW X1, which obtained a "Value Champion" title two years ago and now once more holds first place in the compact SUV category. A resale value of 65.5 per cent is forecast for the BMW X1 xDrive 18d with 105 kW/143 bhp and the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
When calculating value retention, the market experts take a wide range of criteria into account such as vehicle properties, purchase price, performance on comparative tests, brand image and running costs. General buyer trends and developments in the automobile market are also incorporated. The loss of value thereby determined is calculated as a percentage as well as in absolute figures for all models under analysis and a ranking is drawn up on this basis. For example in the top range, the BMW 520i gains a "Value Champion" title for the lowest loss of value in euros. The BMW 5 Series entry-level model - available since autumn 2011 and powered by a 135 kW/184 bhp 4-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology - is an ongoing success story. Two years ago, the BMW 520d was rated as having the lowest loss of value in absolute figures, while last year the BMW 525d Touring was awarded "Value Champion" status in the top-range category.
